The Eighth House

The eighth house, mrityu, means death. However, death does not always refer to a physical event, but can denote transformation. At this point on our evolutionary journey, we are faced with difficult circumstances such as the loss of a job, a serious illness, or the death of a loved one. Each of these experiences challenges us to dig deeper into our selves and seek meaning. These experiences are meant to help us change for the better, not destroy us. If we can yield to the enormous energy of these experiences, we can transform our pain, and discover the reality of our soul self. If we become overwhelmed by painful experiences and resist transformation, our spirit grows rigid. We may fall prey to substance abuse, depression, and loss of hope. If these conditions remain permanent in our lives, we become disconnected from our spiritual self. In evolutionary terms, our soul journey comes to an end.
