How Vedic Astrology Works

Astrology is a language. In every language, there is a vocabulary. In astrology, the vocabulary consists primarily of the description of the signs, the planets, the houses, the aspects, and the transits. Once we have learned the vocabulary, we can begin to create sentences.

The signs indicate our spiritual lessons in life. The planets are indications of types of energy that are being expressed through the signs. This will affect an area of life experience, namely a house of the chart. Traditionally, jyotish (Vedic astrology) focuses on ten planets, twelve signs, and twelve houses.

We all face the challenge of using each planet’s energy wisely. We have the choice either to evolve into the spiritual lesson of the sign or to become bogged down in the mundane affairs of the house. We can get trapped in the physical, material world or we can evolve a spiritual understanding of the higher meaning of the sign.
