Virgo
Virgo (Kanya—Virgin or Daughter)
Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac relating to how we use our energy. Ultimately, our energy can be directed for us to realize perfect health in all our bodily systems—physical, mental, and spiritual. Virgo is reflected by the symbol of the virgin or daughter. It represents perfection as the purest untapped potential of our energy reservoir, as the daughter is the direct offspring from the seed of the father (Sun) and womb of the mother (Moon). The sign Virgo reflects our choice of how we will recharge or dissipate our energy resources. We can develop our nervous system to resist all that is negative that can deplete us, and/or embrace the positive, which acts to restore our energy.
Virgo’s keyword is “I analyze”. This sign’s energy is cerebral, detailed, and methodical. This sign is ruled by Mercury, the planet of self-expression—how we will use our energy. Ideas are communicated in a clear and precise way. We enjoy research and teaching. Virgo and its ruler, Mercury, also relate to the Buddha, representing the perfection of an enlightened, liberated consciousness. In our wish for perfection, we can direct our energy towards healing and servicing others. Often, we will be found in the care-giving professions. This feminine, yin sign is receptive, gentle, and discreet. This sign relates to a serious, deep, and quietly nurturing personality. We will have a knowledge of specialized herbs and teas in order to soothe and heal the discomforts of others. The earth energy of Virgo reflects our practical, down-to-earth approach to life. The mutable aspect of this sign reflects a maturity, as we acknowledge the need for change in order to perfect our consciousness. We surrender to the process of transformation.
Seeking perfection, we must remain flexible when our standards are not met either by ourselves or others. If not, we can be one of the most insecure and anxious signs of the zodiac, as we feel that we have never done quite enough. For example it may take us an eternity to write a book as we are forever re-working the chapters.
Virgo rules the intestines, which processes food and separates toxins from nutrients. Virgo also rules the nervous system, which is the regulator for the entire human body. Busy worrying and analyzing everything, we may suffer from a tense stomach and constipation may result. We have extremely high standards regarding our personal hygiene, diet, and cleanliness. However, this fastidiousness may lead to compulsive behavior, manifesting as an exacting, critical, and fussy nature.
The lesson for Virgo is not to over analyze to the point where we can’t see the forest for the trees. We need to relax into a more embracing acceptance of life in its totality—as a process leading to perfection. The inevitable human flaws we encounter must not upset us. Instead we can direct our energy towards our own enlightenment and finding the God within, we will be able to realize perfection in all.
Virgo is the last of the first six signs placed below the horizon, related to “I” or individual consciousness. Its mutable nature must transform from the “I” to the “we” of the next six signs beginning with Libra placed above the horizon, relating to group consciousness.
Walt Disney has a Virgo ascendant, Sting has the Sun in Virgo, and Agatha Christie has the Moon in Virgo.
