The first time Marie-Christine, a pretty, charming and petite young woman, walked into my office, she was only 17 years old. Like many teenagers her age, she was faced with many potentially life changing decisions.

As we began the session, one of the first things I checked was the ascendant in her natal chart and the hora chart to see the exact nature of her visit. The ascendant reveals our personality, general attitude towards life and the direction we want our life to take. Marie-Christine had a Libra ascendant ruled by the planet Venus, confirming her beauty and charming disposition. Moreover, many astrology books mention that having a Libra ascendant can be very fortunate as Saturn, the planet of structure and purpose, also becomes a dominant force in the chart. This is due to its rulership of two lucky houses, Capricorn in the fourth house related to our general happiness and Aquarius in the fifth, related to our mental outlook, love and creativity. However, if Saturn is not equally strong in our hand, seen for example by the absence of a Saturn (or destiny) line, it shows that we are not manifesting the full potential of Saturn in our life. In addition, like Marie-Christine, having Libra, an air sign, in the ascendant, can give us so many ideas, that we don’t know which one to follow. As a result, we can feel somewhat lost, uncertain and insecure. This can be confirmed in her hand by the presence of multiple Saturn lines. Marie-Christine loved to be spontaneous and free in order to follow her many dreams and inspirations. She didn’t know whether to be a doctor, a massage therapist or an artist.

Marie-Christine did not receive much support from her family, as her parents were divorced, and her mother, whom she lived with, was occupied reconstructing her own emotional life. Consequently, Marie-Christine felt insecure both emotionally and financially, having to work to put herself through school.
    
In the Before print, her two head lines reflect her uncertainty as to which profession to pursue. Although many times throughout the years, as much as she would try to remain focused and complete her education, she would become distracted, with one thing or the other, including falling in love and neglecting her studies. This pattern continued, causing her much unhappiness, as she wanted to realize her dream of being a successful professional. Her need to establish her priorities became the major focus of our consultations.

In time, Marie-Christine recognized the importance of not only making choices but also sticking to them. Ultimately she decided to become a teacher which she pursued on a part-time basis. As she completed each stage of her education, through CEGEP and university, she became increasingly certain, happy and confident in the choice she had made. Each step of the way, she was proud to show me all the ‘As’ she had worked so hard to obtain in her student reports.
    
When I saw her at the beginning of this year, she was 32 and had only one year left to obtain her degree in education. She felt, however, that her real accomplishment was the changes she had made in her handprints, as seen by the After print. She was amazed to see that her two head lines had finally merged into one, confirming all the good that she saw manifesting in her life. Also, her destiny line had become more focused. She was happy to be rid of the doubts and feelings of incompetence that had plagued her for many years. Today, she is feeling strong, certain and convinced to finish school successfully.
    
On the emotional front, she is happily involved in a supportive relationship. She realized that, in the past, it was her own insecurity that was responsible to have attracted wrong people. Her focus on her relationships gave her the excuse to miss class. This enabled her to not have to confront her fear of failing to achieve her goal. In contrast, her growing self-assurance gave her the magnetism to attract love in the form of inspiration and support. She is no longer emotionally dependent based on her complexes and fears.  By recognizing her weakness, she created the will and dynamism to change.

In my personal coaching, I concentrate on specific areas that my clients would like to work on. I explain to them, however, that what may have taken many years to develop as a negative habit or self-defeating pattern needs time and commitment to bring about change.
