Fortune or good luck is mostly thought of in terms of an arbitrary force affecting our affairs. However, according to Eastern philosophy, both our good and bad luck are considered the result of our own actions, or karma, illustrated in the expression, “as we sow so shall we reap”.
 
In the hand, the Saturn or destiny line is often referred to as the line of good fortune or bhagya, as it reveals we have found a purpose in life. The Saturn line originates at the base of the palm, continues upwards through Rahu in the middle of the palm, ideally past the head and heart lines, and terminates near or on the mount of Saturn.
 
The Saturn line is a minor line relating to our conscious awareness as opposed to the major lines of heart, head and life as indicators of our subconscious. It provides a channel for the conscious expression of our more subconscious nature through our chosen purpose of life. The presence of a Saturn line indicates that we are consciously aware that we have something to live for (life line), to focus our mind on (head line) and to be inspired by (heart line), as there is a motivation and focus to achieve our life ambition. The Saturn line provides the channel through which previously untapped qualities can now be brought to a conscious level of expression by way of a profession or vocation. It indicates to what degree we are organized so that our lives work as a cohesive whole and serves as the backbone for the other lines of the hand.
 
In contrast to the head line, which is placed horizontally on the palm, denoting that our thinking can create obstacles in our life, the Saturn line, due to its vertical position, is considered a line of transcendence and good fortune. The Saturn line shows the potential for us to rise above any challenges related to our physical health, thoughts or emotions. Good news, as the Saturn line can change, it reflects our ability to transcend any challenges and/or to remodel our destiny.

“Lorne” - Learning to Make a Commitment

Lorne’s father brought him for a consultation, as he was in his late 20s, still living at home, without any interest to find a job, go back to school or join the family business. Adding further pressure to the situation, Vanessa, his girlfriend, was insisting that he make a commitment to her. Esoterically speaking, the Saturn line placed in the middle of the palm denotes the potential to be centered within ourself. As our life unfolds, we have the potential to unite our opposite, yin and yang characteristics, enabling us to become whole within ourselves. In this harmonized, balanced state of completeness, we then resonate with a feeling of unity for all humanity. We feel free from distracting circumstances and are able to both think objectively and express our feelings lovingly. Furthermore, within this calm, interior environment, the ground is prepared for even greater wisdom, compassion, and joy. For, as Sri Yukteswarji, a great Eastern saint, has pointed out, the purpose of life is to realize freedom from unhappiness.
 
The presence of a clear, long and unobstructed destiny line in your hand shows that you might be well on your way to realizing your life purpose. However, a fragmented line or the presence of multiple destiny lines shows that you may still feel uncertain about your priorities and what you want to accomplish.

Aries ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 7th house
Saturn is now transiting the 7th house for those with an Aries ascendant. This house relates to those with whom we have a close working relationship, as well as to our marriage partner. Moreover, the 7th house also corresponds to our subconscious, an aspect of our mind that, though we are mostly unaware of, has a significant influence on our thinking and behavior. It is interesting to note that these two apparently dissimilar features of this house - our subconscious and our more intimate relationships - are in fact strongly related. Simply put, the vibrational frequency of who we are on a subconscious level plays a large role with whom we are likely to attract as a life partner. And it is in the arena of these intimate, personal relationships that we have the potential to grow and evolve as a result of gaining a clearer perspective of who we are - our strengths and weaknesses - if we are open to seeing these different sides of our nature.

That being said now, and for the next 2½ years, you have an excellent opportunity to benefit from these close relationships. You may attract a capable business partner, your “significant other”, or you may reinforce an already existing relationship with greater commitment and mutual support.

Taurus ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 6th house
Saturn in Libra is now transiting your 6th house. Traditionally referred to as a malefic house, the 6th house has received much “bad press”, as it is seen as the house of enemies, opposition, resistance and health issues. Often, however, our greatest enemy is ourselves as a result of our conditioned attitudes and behavior patterns. It is these challenging aspects of our nature whereby we can attract opposition; we make decisions that are not to our best advantage, and in the end suffer for it. So, in one respect, having this house highlighted, especially with the teacher/taskmaster Saturn in it, will provide you ample positive opportunity to triumph over any less than ideal personal qualities, that you would prefer to eliminate in your life.

At this time, to help you towards this end, you are likely to attract advice and guidance that can help you navigate through challenging circumstances in such a way that you learn to overcome them as well as benefiting from the experiences; you are then one step ahead father in your spiritual evolution. Those who guide you at this time, for example a mentor, can be a great source of inspiration helping in your professional growth. Gemini ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 5th house
Saturn is now transiting your 5th house which is associated with, for example, children, the mind and intelligence, to name a few. During this transit, you may seek further education, or begin to study something that you have been thinking of exploring for a long time. Your mental faculties are sharper during this transit, and you may even discover that you understand facets of some area of research better now than you may have comprehended in the past. Consequently, you will put much energy into learning which will serve you well in the future. This is also a time to develop greater patience that you might need, as whatever gains you may be expecting from the work you are doing, can be somewhat delayed. It is not, then, the time to create any large expenses, as this would only add to the already existing debts that you will be in the process of clearing.

During this transit as Saturn moves through your 4th house, you may feel the urge to settle down, create stronger roots, and to stabilize your home and living conditions. For example, you may contemplate buying land, a condo, or a house, or simply find more time to enjoy your “fortress of solitude”. As the 4th house, is the most personal, and private area of our chart, it is necessary that we, from time to time, pay more attention to establishing this “inner sanctum” a place where we can reflect, interiorize, meditate, or contemplate life; we can visualize where we are going, who we are, and how we fit into the larger scheme of things. Otherwise, we can feel somewhat like a kite that is loose in the wind having its string severed. Consequently, though we may be engaged in the outer world - which at this time can be quite demanding - the grounding we receive when established securely in our home and our interior life, is all the more important when contrasted to the stress, pressure, and demands of daily life.

It is important, however, not to go overboard towards creating your “nest” as you may also need to be somewhat frugal during this transit. Fortunately, support can come from your spouse, long time companion, or even from your mother at this time. Friends and colleagues can also “chip in” in ways that will also be supportive.

This is also a time to settle your debts, both financial and karmic, as you will need to find a balance between satisfying your needs, settling outstanding liabilities, and taking care of those who have helped you in the past.

On a different note, you may be inclined to delve into the mysteries of the occult, the world of metaphysics that can provide an alternate vision of reality. The interior world you create as a result of this exploration, can help give you a different, yet valuable perspective on life.

Leo ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 3rd house
As one with a Leo ascendant, you are strong, dynamic, and have an intelligent, bright disposition. You are determined to achieve whatever you desire with courage and enthusiasm. Saturn in Libra is now visiting your 3rd house. If you have any artistic talent that has been put aside, perhaps for years, shelved as a result of life’s many obligations and priorities, now can be the time to get in touch with your creative potential. Virgo ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 2nd house
Those with Virgo ascendant are sensitive, and are very selective and discriminating in taste. Although they have an analytical mind, they must be careful that they don’t become overly critical as a result of their perfectionist nature. Saturn in Libra now transiting your 2nd house shows that you can expect to attract greater support from your immediate environment, seen as those who surround you in your daily affairs of life. It is these people who may push you towards either going back to school, getting a higher education, or taking advantage of increasing your skill set at work, perhaps through company oriented seminars for self improvement. Libra ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 1st house

Those with a Libra ascendant have a charming, pleasing personality. As Saturn has now moved into Libra, it will be posited in your ascendant or first house approximately for the next 28 months. And as mentioned at the beginning of this article, the influence of Saturn can be profound. That being said, the effects on your first house can be dramatic, a clearing house of sorts. As a consequence of Saturn transiting the first house, or ascendant, your personal expression can be highlighted; you may exude an air of greater confidence and trustworthiness that others will be drawn to. You can be recognized as one to be respected and admired. Moreover, your intuition can be heightened during this transit providing for greater discrimination and perception in all your undertakings. As a result of this personal restructuring, your professional, as well as personal life can take a quantum step towards the successful realization of your ambitions.

On a personal level, you may focus more on creating stronger roots in regards to the home. For example you may have the opportunity to stabilize the relationship with your mother if there have been any misunderstandings in the past. Moreover, you can anticipate the acquisition of land, a home or perhaps another residence. With all of the above, however, you will have to work hard making sure that in your enthusiasm to forge ahead and accomplish that you do not neglect your companion. Scorpio ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 12th house

Saturn in Libra will be located in your 12th house for those with a Scorpio ascendant. This house is associated with rather extreme consequences – loss or liberation, confinement or freedom, and temporal pleasures or enlightenment. We can imagine, then, that depending on our personal worldview – one that is situated somewhere along the spectrum from the worldly, material, and mundane to one that is spiritual, immaterial, and transcendent in nature – we will experience, accordingly, these specific 12th house effects.
Saturn in Libra – its best (exalted) position is highly beneficial for 12th house affairs. On a material level your life journey can be softened and comforted. Courage, confidence, conviction, clarity, enthusiasm and perseverance are heightened. Expenses made now will be for some constructive purpose, rather than to simply satisfy personal desires. As an example, the purchase of land is possible, an investment that will enable you to flourish. As this house also relates to foreign influences, you can prosper through any kind of foreign connections made during this transit.
On a spiritual level, this 12th house Saturn transit indicates that you could be interested in letting go of everything non essential in your life. Perhaps we are coming to the conclusion that some of our “things” - our “unnecessary necessities”, as a great saint pointed out, own us more than we own them. They take up valuable time, energy, and money that could be used differently to facilitate a more spiritual quest.
Keep in mind, that during this transit we may feel like “crushing” the enemy – seen as competitors or any opposition we perceive as standing in our way. We do, though, have a great opportunity now to destroy the “enemy within” – our own self-created demons fashioned as a result of our own fears, likes and dislikes, anxieties and so on. Crushing this enemy, we free ourselves to live a more spontaneous, fulfilling and joyful life. So make the most of this Saturn 12th house transit.

Sagittarius ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 11th house

For those with a Sagittarius ascendant, Saturn in Libra is now transiting your 11th house. Categorically, any planet either located natally in the 11th, or transiting through it, can bring about some form of gain. Therefore, Saturn’s influence over the next 28 months is positive. For example, investments that have been made or hard work done in the past, or perhaps even a loan that was given a while back can all pan out to your advantage during this period. It can be a time to “cash in your checks”. Moreover, money can even suddenly and unexpectedly be gained; you might consider purchasing lottery tickets during this transit. A word of caution, however, is that expectations can kill our spirit. Besides, we all get what we deserve as a result of past karma, so let what may come, as you may have tend to over anticipate some gain or the successful achievement of some plan during this period. Consequently, this can be a test of acceptance, appreciation, and tolerance, as you may want more than you have. In the extreme your attitude towards gain can border on greed, which takes all the fun out of what otherwise could be a more innocent and exhilarating anticipation of something good on the verge of happening. Think “expectancy, not expectation”, and you’ll enjoy the ride so much more.
In addition to being content with what you have, and to assure that no additional challenging karma is incurred during this time, (karma that you will simply have to pay off at some time in the future) watch that you don’t go overboard in a quest for the “myriad comforts and pleasures that life has to offer.


Capricorn ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 10th house

Having a Capricorn ascendant, Saturn in Libra is transiting your 10th house of profession, karma, and the public – where you are in full view. This positive placement suggests that you may attract greater recognition, reputation, and a more prominent, respected social image. During this transit you are likely to attain success both financially and also in regards to your profession. For example, if you are running for some kind of office, this transit is in favor of your winning. There is also the possibility that you can benefit from some foreign influence, either through someone you meet or through dealings with, for example, another country. You may be required to make an investment larger than you anticipate, but the returns will be correspondingly greater.
On the home front, however, your continued care and attention is necessary if you want to continue to enjoy your family, home, and the roots you have put down so far. Neglecting this aspect of your life in your quest to satisfy professional ambitions will only work against you. It is necessary that you balance these two important aspects of your life if you want to get ahead, and to be happy and successful. Moreover, whatever misunderstandings that you may encounter with your “significant other” as Saturn moves through your 10th need to be addressed calmly and with compassion. As a great saint once said, “Wise men discuss, only fools argue.”


Aquarius ascendant - Saturn in Libra in the 9th house

Saturn in Libra has moved into the 9th house for all those with an Aquarius ascendant. As this is the house of good fortune, or dharma – interpreted as virtue, depending on our point of view and life philosophy, this transit will have contrasting effects. On a mundane, material level, you can expect greater support, encouragement, and inspiration from, for example, a mentor, counselor or advisor who will have your best interests at heart. Consequently, you are likely to attract fortunate circumstances through which you can gain greater knowledge; and, as knowledge is power, you can be guided more clearly as you progress on the path of life. Success, however, may still come somewhat slowly as you may not be as inclined to work as hard as you could to otherwise speed things up. Be careful that you do not ruffle any feathers along the way, as this transit suggests that you may have some difficulty making sense to those who might oppose your ideas or plans. This is a good time, then, to develop greater toleration, perseverance and to maintain your conviction for what you believe in.

On a more spiritual level, however, this can be a time of great luck; your search for divine laws, morality, idealism and greater attunement to spirit is highlighted. You may recognize aspects of your previous, perhaps more material and worldly existence as becoming less and less important. You recognize the temporal, fleeting nature of life, and maybe even a sense of urgency to connect more deeply and profoundly with your true nature – your soul. During this transit, then, you may push forward with spiritual disciplines, such as meditation, mantra, and swara – to name a few – that will accelerate your journey more successfully to this end. Regardless that we have a drive to succeed materially, spiritually, or any combination of these two, this transit provides the occasion to foster greater conscious awareness to fly towards the higher values of life.

Pisces ascendant – Saturn in Libra in the 8th house

Saturn is now transiting the 8th house for those with Pisces ascendant. As the 8th house is traditionally associated with personal transformation, debts and liabilities, one could wonder just how much enjoyment can be experienced during such a transit. Fortunately, however, Saturn located here – and exalted – can bring about the more positive aspect of these characteristics, especially if you are on a spiritual quest. If this is the case, it is likely that you will make significant progress aided and supported through the metaphysical sciences, for example, palmistry, astrology as well as other esoteric techniques and disciplines.
 
In regards to transformation as associated with the 8th house, we all are confronted with making significant changes throughout our lives in our evolutionary process. It is when we decline to accept and grow through situations that enable us to evolve that we experience a kind of “spiritual death”. The more we recognize the necessity for personal change, the greater our spiritual awareness grows. This transformation gives life, rather than making it shorter.

And as a caution, watch that in your enthusiasm to dive into matters of the 8th house that you don’t neglect the important relationships in your life.
