The Majors Lines
Your Subconscious: the Major Lines
The sages of India have classified the lines into two groups—major and minor. The subconscious mind is shown by the three principal or major lines of heart, head and life, that indicate how we feel, think and live respectively. The minor lines—which include the line of destiny, the Sun line and union line, among others—reflect the workings of the conscious mind.
From the formation of the major lines we can detect positive and negative patterns of thought as well as the likelihood of breaking old unconscious habits and the possibilities of formulating new positive ones. Through understanding the laws of cause and effect, we can see how receptive we are to learning from the past and recognizing that we ourselves are the creator of both suffering and happiness.
In Sanskrit the three major (subconscious) lines are referred to as hradaya rekha (heart line), mustishk rekha (head line) and jeevan rekha (life line). They play a vital function, providing an interface between the superconscious mounts that underlie them and the conscious-related minor lines that give them expression.
Following is a brief explanation of the three major lines.
The Life Line
Brief Diagnostic Scope of the Life Line
Briefly, an analysis of the life line yields valuable information about our physical well-being. The line’s formation indicates the state of health, the degree of stamina, and the condition of the nervous system. It also reveals the extent of our enthusiasm for life, and our willingness to undertake challenges.
From a spiritual viewpoint, the life line indicates our degree of self-control and ability to concentrate and focus. The life line can also be studied for clues to life events that chronicle the major influences affecting our lifestyle such as family influences, health obstacles and interpersonal conflicts.
The Head Line
Brief Diagnostic Scope of the Head Line
The head line relates directly to the intellectual faculties of an individual. From a physical stand point, it yields information regarding the actual organic condition of the brain.
Psychologically, this line reflects our degree of intelligence, mental refinement, and concentration. In addition, the potential for such spiritual qualities as intuition, composure and dedication are seen here. Specific life events also register on the head line, particularly those that affect our mental health, psychological outlook and ability to perceive objectively.
The Heart Line
Brief Diagnostic Scope of the Heart Line
The heart line serves as an indicator of our loving disposition, emotional make-up and sexual well-being; as well, it provides information concerning the physical condition of the heart organ itself. From a spiritual standpoint, the heart line bears an especially close relationship to the soul, reflecting as it does our capacity for engendering the qualities of generosity and forgiveness. Chronological life events also register on this major line—most particularly, events relating to interpersonal relationships and emotional complexities.
Interplay of the Three Major Lines
When viewed together, these three major lines give us a clear understanding of how well we are utilizing and coordinating the physical, mental and emotional energies through our personality, experience and behavior. For the healthiest expression, each of these lines should be deep, narrow, relatively long and preferably free from any breaks or interferences.
In the presence of islands, dots, interference lines, overlapping lines or any other negative signs, there is a necessity to take proper precautions in the area of life denoted by the line on which these negative markings appear.
